Final Election Results Show Landslide For Coalition Slate

A full slate of seven candidates endorsed by the Democrats, Conservatives and Meredith Unity Party swept to overwhelming victory in the town elections on November 6.

Meredith voters turned out in unprecedented numbers to elect a new majority for the Town Council: Keitha Capouya for Supervisor and Ron Bailey and Dan Birnbaum for members of Council. The three had pledged to revise the town wind ordinance and ban industrial turbines.

Election officials said 74 percent of the town’s eligible voters went to the polls--741 out of approximately 1,000 registered voters.

In soundly defeating her Republican rival, Roger Hamilton, Capouya captured 65 percent of the vote.
